Grassy Waters Preserve makes up 23 square miles of wetlands ecosystem. This beautiful nature preserve sets the scene for an exciting day exploring the remnants of what once served as an essential component of the Greater Everglades. About Grassy Waters Preserve

Toady, Grassy Waters Preserve serves as the freshwater supply for the West Palm Beach, South Palm Beach, and Palm Beach Island. Historically, the preserve once fed directly into the Everglades as well as the headwaters of the Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River. 

Hike the Trails

There are five different trails within the preserve on which you can hike or ride your bike. 

Hog Hammock Trail 

Length: 4-mile round trip | Activities: hiking & biking 

This crushed shell and rock gravel trail affords sweeping views of the vast landscape featuring shady trees, boardwalks, and cypress knees. 

Eagle Trail 

Length: 0.65-mile loop | Activities: hiking & catch and release fishing on Gator Lake

This narrow, winding trail is not bike-friendly. Follow the rugged dirt path to Gator Lake, where you can spend time on the fishing pier casting your line! 

Cypress Boardwalk Trail 

Length: 1-mile round trip | Activities: hiking & guided educational programs

The elevated wooden boardwalk is stroller and wheelchair accessible. Stop to take things all in from the rocking chairs situated beneath shaded huts along the way. You can admire sunbathing alligators, singing birds, and sprawling ferns. 

Owahee Trail 

Length: 16 miles one-way | Activities: hiking & biking

This sandy berm trail winds through multiple stretches of nature that are home to local flora and fauna. Keep your eyes peeled for alligators, turtles, deer, roseate spoonbills, various herons, hawks, and more.

Apoxee Trail

Length: 3 miles with connections to Owahee Trail | Activities: hiking 

Did you know that Apoxee means “beyond tomorrow” in the Miccosukee language? Travel through wetland hammock and pine flatwoods while following this dirt path.
