The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens Are a Tropical Paradise
Who Was Ann Norton?
Ann Weaver Norton, a famous sculptor, was the widow of Ralph Norton. The sculpture gardens display her artwork on the grounds of her former West Palm Beach home. The home was owned by Ralph Norton, the founder of the Norton Museum of Art, where Ann was a sculptor instructor. Ann is known for her monolithic sculptures forged in brick, stone, and wood. Visitors to the Gardens can discover her larger than life works hidden in the lush and wild gardens.
What Will I See at the Gardens?
Sir Peter Smithers, a renowned botanist, designed the Gardens. They are home to two acres of beautiful plants, tropical landscapes, and imaginative art. There are over 250 species of rare palms and cycads on site, making the Gardens one of the largest public collections of unusual tropical species in Florida. In addition, there are also over 100 works of art by Ann Norton displayed throughout the house, artist studio, and gardens. You can also check out the current art exhibition, which changes about every month. When you visit the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, you’ll be stepping into a dazzling haven within the bustling city of West Palm Beach.
The Sculpture Gardens are one of our favorite gardens in West Palm Beach! If you’re in the mood to discover another during your trip, we recommend Mounts Botanical Garden. This 14-acre living plant museum has lovely exhibits, engaging programs, and expert gardeners to offer expertise. The best part? Admission is just a $5 suggested donation!
What Can I Do at the Gardens?
There are so many exciting events to attend at the Sculpture Gardens! We love the Evening in the Gardens event, which features extended hours for a twilight stroll. Enjoy stunning exhibits by world-famous artists, like Gino Miles. You’ll also celebrate the recipient of the Ann Norton Award for Philanthropy.
Another great event is the annual Sculpture in Motion affair. This display of classic pre- and post-war automobiles features guided group tours by automobile historians. The event concludes with the Vintage Cars & Classic Cocktails reception, a private happy hour including a more intimate look at the antique cars.
